Portfolio Site Research and Analysis 12/10/2023
Chosen Website: eboy.com https://www.eboy.com/
© 2023, eBoy Shop Ecommerce Software by Shopify1) Whose website is it and what sort of creative work is it presenting?
The website is for the German graphic design company "eBoy", with the website's homepage presenting many prints and puzzle activities of their designs and work, mainly pixelated designs of characters, company mascot and landscapes of cities.
2) How would you describe the overall aesthetic / mood / tone of the website?
The website has a very retro aesthetic in general, due to the pixelated artwork commonly displayed partnered with the blocky layout of the page and company logo. It also appears very minimalist due to the lack of complex features and due to the orderly, neat layout of ever page.
3) What colour scheme does it have?
The website is mostly a flat white background of each page, but most of their displayed works heavily feature blue, green and red. These colours were likely chosen due to all 3 being primary colours and therefor further developing the minimalist design philosophy the website seems to maintain.
4) How would you describe the layout of the information presented?
The layout of all information would best be described as Sterile. Everything is presented in a clean, white background all in orderly boxes, with most text on other pages such as their commission information being held in the centre of the page. This helps to keep each page minimalist whilst still conveying the information it wants to show the viewer.
5) Who do you think the site is aimed at? Is there an option for audience feedback?
The page is most likely aimed people with a passion for digital design, as well as being likely aimed at organisations looking to hire people for graphic work, as seen in their commissions page where eBoy talks about being previously hired by companies like Adidas, MTV and Balenciaga. There is no in-site option for audience feedback, however there are details at the bottom of each page regarding the company's contact information and privacy policy.
6) Overall, what do you like or not like about it?
Overall I am a fan of the simple structure of the website, as I believe it fits well with the simplistic, pixilated style of their works while still managing to be eye-catching and visually appealing. I was however rather upset that eBoy appear to be in the NFT selling business with their "Blockbob" prints, which most sane artists online rightfully frown upon, myself included. Still, for what they're trying to do I believe that the website has a very good layout overall and don't see any glaring changes that would need to be made in post.
