Cup of Tea Piece - Session 3 - 20/10/2023
For the third and final section of our tea making film assignment, we were tasked with editing together the collection of sequences and shots we had accumulated over the course of our shooting sessions into a video exactly 90 seconds long. While the footage we gathered during all 3 shots was admittedly not the greatest material we had to work with, it was at the very least still usable for creating a passable end result.
To edit the video together we used Adobe Premiere Pro 2024, one of the video editing programmes installed on the university computers, each of us being tasked with editing together out own versions of the short film. After porting over the video files from the video camera's SD card onto the computers, I went through the process of singling out the shots from our second and third shoot sessions, as our first shoot's footage was unusable and therefor non-applicable to the others without large inconsistencies. Once I singled out what I believed to be the best clips from the shoot sessions, I began the process of properly cutting and linking each sequence together within Premiere Pro. Below is an image depicting the editing software whilst I was in the process of editing the footage together.
My main, other than assuring the video ran for exactly 1 minute and 30 seconds, was to keep every shot consistent with the last. This mainly involved manipulating the exposure, contrast and levels of each clip to ensure that the lighting stayed at the same intensity throughout the video, using the scales on the right of the screen as well as Lumetri Scopes to measure the levels as the video played. I also took care in ensuring the audio stayed consistent when transitioning from clip to clip, mainly done through audio fade in's/fade out's using the keyframe tool, and unlinking certain audio tracks from their sequences so the audio could blend into the next recording.
After all of this, I came to an end result for my video that I can say that, at the very least, I myself am satisfied with. Being me, Kavinayaa and Quevin's first assignment involving filming using proper studio equipment, we're all fully aware that what we've produced is by no means perfect. Even still I believe that this learning experience will ensure that the next work like this I produce will be of higher quality thanks to the knowledge I now have, both about filming and camera framing and about editing the shots we filmed in Premiere Pro.
